LineupSmith Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and LineupSmith LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company ("LineupSmith," "we," "us," or "our"), and govern your use of the LineupSmith website at lineupsmith.com, the LineupSmith application at app.lineupsmith.com, and related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service, and you must be using it as a coach, team manager, or other adult team organizer. The Service is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under 18, and purchases may be made only by adults. The Service is offered for use in the United States.
2. What LineupSmith is — and is not
LineupSmith generates fielding rotations, batting orders, and a rule-by-rule audit of each plan. It is a decision-support tool, not a substitute for your judgment or your league's rules. You acknowledge that:
- The generator applies only the rules you configure. A plan marked "valid" or "league-legal" reflects the constraints you provided — it is not an independent determination of any league's actual rules.
- You are solely responsible for verifying that any lineup complies with your league's actual rules before using it in a game.
- LineupSmith does not provide scorekeeping, scheduling, messaging, or league administration.
3. Accounts and roles
- Head Coach — the single owner of a team. The Head Coach is responsible for the team, controls its roster and membership, and is the paying party for any paid plan that covers it. Exactly one per team.
- Assistant Coach — a coach invited by a Head Coach to help run a team day-to-day. Assistant Coaches never pay for the team.
You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information, for keeping your credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@lineupsmith.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
4. Plans, billing, and cancellation
4.1 The plans
- Free plan. Every coach starts here, and it never expires. As of the Effective Date it includes one team you Head-Coach and three Active games at a time, counted across every team you Head-Coach, with the full planning experience inside those games. To plan a fourth game, archive one — archiving is reversible and your choice. An Archived game is never deleted and never held hostage: it stays readable and exportable (print, image, CSV, clipboard) on every plan, forever; it just isn't editable until you make it Active again.
- Season Ticket. Our paid plan, billed annually — $49 per year as of the Effective Date. One Season Ticket covers every team you Head-Coach for the year, with unlimited teams and Active games and the other features listed on our pricing page. Current pricing is always shown at checkout.
- Starting Lineup (founding rate). The first 50 coaches to buy a Season Ticket, or through December 31, 2026 at 11:59pm ET, whichever comes first, get it at the founding rate — $29 per year as of the Effective Date. Your founding rate stays locked as long as your Season Ticket subscription remains active. If it lapses, re-subscribing is at the then-current price. The founding rate is never restored after a lapse — re-entry is at the then-current list price — but your membership in the founding cohort (including any named thanks you opted into) is permanent.
4.2 Billing and automatic renewal
Subscriptions are billed through Stripe, our payment processor, using the payment method you provide at checkout. Your subscription renews automatically each year, and your payment method is charged at the start of each renewal term, until you cancel. Prices are exclusive of taxes; applicable sales tax is calculated and added at checkout. Receipts are emailed to your account address.
4.3 How to cancel
Cancel anytime — no email or phone call required — from your Account page via Manage billing, which opens the Stripe customer portal (you can also email support@lineupsmith.com and we'll do it for you). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid term: you keep your Season Ticket until the date you've paid through, and then your account moves to the Free plan. When that happens we archive your games down to your three most recent Active games — nothing is deleted, and you choose which games to make Active from then on.
4.4 Failed payments
If a renewal charge fails, Stripe may retry it. If payment cannot be collected, we may cancel the subscription, and your account moves to the Free plan as described above. We do not delete your data over a failed payment.
4.5 Price changes
We may change subscription prices. A price change never takes effect mid-term: it applies no earlier than your next renewal, and we will give you notice before a renewal at a higher price. Starting Lineup coaches keep their founding rate under Section 4.1 for as long as their subscription remains active.
4.6 Refunds
Except where the law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable and we do not prorate: canceling stops the next renewal rather than refunding the current term, and you keep what you paid for through the end of the term. If you think something has gone wrong with a charge, email support@lineupsmith.com and a human will look at it.
4.7 Account deletion and billing
Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone: your account and every team you Head-Coach are deleted (see Section 10), and you will no longer be able to sign in. As part of the same step, any active subscription is canceled immediately — not at period end — and the unused remainder of the term is not refunded. If you want to use out a paid year, keep the account until the term ends, then delete.
5. Roster data rules
LineupSmith is built to hold as little information about young athletes as possible, and these Terms make that a rule, not just a design choice. When you add players to a roster, you agree that:
- You will enter only a player's display name and optional jersey number as identifying information — a first name, nickname, or first name plus last initial. You will not enter a player's full legal name.
- You will not enter any other information about any player — no birth dates or ages, no photos, no contact information, no addresses, no school information, no parent or guardian information, and no medical or health information — in any field, including free-text fields like team or opponent names.
- You are the player's coach or team organizer and have the authority, under your league's and team's policies, to enter this limited information.
We may remove content that violates these rules. See the Privacy Policy for how roster information is handled and how parents can have a child's information reviewed or deleted.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to violate any law or anyone's rights;
- Enter information about a player beyond what Section 5 allows;
- Share your account, or access another coach's team or data without authorization;
- Probe, disrupt, or overload the Service, or attempt to bypass its security or access controls;
- Scrape the Service, resell it, or offer it to third parties as your own;
- Reverse engineer the Service except where the law grants that right notwithstanding this term; or
- Use the Service to develop a competing product.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms (see Section 10).
7. Your content
Your rosters, games, and lineups are yours. You grant LineupSmith a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, display, and transmit that content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service. This license ends when the content is deleted, except for limited backup retention described in the Privacy Policy.
Exports you generate (printed cards, images, CSV) are yours to use and share; they carry a small "Built with lineupsmith.com." mark.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without restriction or obligation to you — that's what shapes the roadmap.
8. Our intellectual property
The Service — including its software, design, solver, brand, and content other than yours — is owned by LineupSmith LLC and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service under these Terms. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
9. Third-party services
Payments are processed by Stripe, and parts of the Service run on third-party infrastructure (Supabase, Cloudflare, Resend). Your use of Stripe's checkout and billing portal is also subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
10. Termination
By you. You may stop using the Service at any time, and you may delete your account from the Account page. Account deletion is permanent: it immediately deletes every team you Head-Coach — including teams shared with other coaches, whose members lose access and are notified — along with their rosters, games, and lineups, and it cancels any active subscription under Section 4.7. The confirmation screen shows you exactly what will be deleted before you confirm. Export anything you want to keep first.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your access (with notice where practicable) if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we discontinue the Service or terminate without your breach while you have time left on a paid term, we will refund the unused portion — that is the one exception to Section 4.6.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, and 14) survive.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ANY LINEUP OR ROTATION SATISFIES THE RULES OF ANY PARTICULAR LEAGUE OR GOVERNING BODY — VERIFYING A LINEUP AGAINST YOUR LEAGUE'S ACTUAL RULES IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
12. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (A) NEITHER LINEUPSMITH NOR ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OR SUPPLIERS WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY; AND (B) LINEUPSMITH'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE GREATEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
13. Indemnification
You will defend and hold harmless LineupSmith LLC and its members and managers from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms — including the roster data rules in Section 5, (b) your violation of law or of another person's rights, or (c) a claim that you lacked authority to enter information about a player.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Talk to us first. Before filing any claim, email support@lineupsmith.com with a description of the dispute; we will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. Most things can be fixed this way.
Any dispute that isn't resolved informally must be brought in the state courts sitting in Williamson County, Tennessee, or the federal courts for the Middle District of Tennessee, and both parties consent to venue and personal jurisdiction there — except that either party may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court where you live if it qualifies. To the extent permitted by law, any claim must be filed within one year of when it arose.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated Terms at lineupsmith.com/terms with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will give notice in the app, on the site, or by email to your account address. Changes take effect on posting (or on the stated effective date), except that changes affecting the price or length of an active subscription take effect no earlier than your next renewal. Your continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
16. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and LineupSmith about the Service, and supersede prior agreements on that subject.
- Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest of the Terms remain in effect, and the provision is enforced to the maximum extent permitted.
- No waiver. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the Privacy Policy.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
- Notices. We may notify you via the Service or the email on your account. You can send legal notices to the addresses below.
